The L2L 2016 conference concludes with two sessions of Catalytic Conversations where you can engage in professional dialogue with your colleagues on a variety of topics. Below are the details for each session as well as the supplementary readings (if applicable).

The Inquiry Process

A discussion on how using the Inquiry Based Learning (IBL) can help student learning and active engagement in the classroom. IBL starts by posing questions, problems or scenarios rather than simply presenting established facts. Teachers take on more of a facilitator role, and support students in becoming thoughtful, collaborative and innovative learners capable of engaging in their own inquiries and thriving in a world of constant change.

A discussion surrounding five key learnings for beginning teachers will be discussed. Key learnings were derived from discussions between beginning teachers and those who work closely with them. The session will be narrative in nature and will encourage sharing of stories from participants in hopes of offering opportunity for reflection. A goal will be for participants to consider how to better support beginning teachers in their respective schools or educational institutes.

2. Keep on Rolling: Socratic Circles

We will begin with a quick question and answer on various activities which revolve around civil discourse. The session will conclude with a 30 minute Socratic Circle on the readings which will be provided during the session. Please find attach a short backgrounder on Socratic Circles. By the end of the session, you should have a good understanding of how such student-led discussions function and how they can be of use in your classroom--regardless of the discipline!
